I Enjoyed My Last Festival without Regret

The gorgeous stage, the roar growing louder, the variety of snacks, the dressed up girls and the multitude of entertainment programs. What is up on our campus? It is neither Christmas nor The New Year. It is just September, the first month of our fall semester. Yes, it is our university festival!

With the exception of joining a dancing program, my first festival at Chonnam National University passed by before I understood what it was and why it lasted for three days. In the second year, there were more and more foreign students and the relevant organizations began to promote the university festival to the foreign student groups. During the three day festival, I ate traditional Korean snacks that I had never tasted before, watched performances by Korean students, and at night I chatted with friends while drinking in the Jumak (Korean pub)which was opened by the students themselves. In the third year, the Chinese Student Union was set up so we could get lots of information about the festival before it opened.
This year I seemed to be very attached to the festival as graduation is coming. I started to plan what I should do several days before the festival started as I did not want to have any regrets about my last university festival. It seemed that more and more people joined the festival, and every corner of the campus was thronged. We could barely move between Bongji and the East Gate, and the Jumaks of the different majors and organizations became more colorful. All the foreign friends around me joined the festival actively even though it suddenly became colder on the last day of the festival. They stood around the main stage, enjoyed performances, shouted, laughed, sawed the air, and danced. They gave some performances to introduce their culture and to show their passion for our university. While watching their performance, suddenly I felt that we really blended into Korean culture and that Korean culture accepted us.
Chinese Student Union member Fang Yuan (Senior, Department of Agricultural Economy) said, “This is the first year that we had our own Jumak. Thanks to opening a Jumak we made many Korean friends who are interested in Chinese culture, and we know more about both Korean culture and university culture. We were able to practice the Korean Language and learn many things about life. Also it promotes foreign students to participate in university activities in many different ways.” Now, I feel that I became a member of the big family - Chonnam National University. No one can stop the steps towards campus globalization of CNU, which is your, my and our university.
