The Chonnam National University Language Education Center has run the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Korean Language Program, commissioned by the U.S. Department of State, for nine consecutive years until this year. The CLS program is an authoritative program which the U.S. government selects scholarship students from American college and university students and provides opportunities to spend several weeks learning one of 14 languages at an overseas educational institute. This year, 25 CLS scholarship students will get intensive Korean language classes in four sessions over the course of about seven weeks, beginning with orientation on June 22 and finishing on August 12. They also get the opportunity to learn about Korean culture through cultural workshops and experiential activities such as calligraphy and taekwondo.
