CNU Students Portraits for Peace Project

In commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Democratic Uprising, Chonnam National University’s Asia-Pacific Research Center and the Student-led Independence Movement Research Center invited the renowned artist Sion Khan for a special exhibition entitled “CNU Student Portraits for Peace Project”. Sion Khan, Bae Hee-kwon in real life, is renowned for his croquis portraits and has painted the 20 world leaders at the 2010 G20 World Leaders’ Summit. As the second project from the 2010 Gwangju Biennale’s 10,000 Lives Project, the current work is dedicated to world human rights activists that will promote Gwangju’s identity of fostering democracy. The event took place in the College of Social Science’s lobby and annex building from May 12th to 22nd.

International Lounge for CNUians in Humanities Building

The College of Humanities opened the International Lounge for students in room 113 at the College Building Ⅱ at Chonnam National University (CNU) to promote cultural exchange between Korean and foreign students. Students can read newspapers and magazines written in Chinese, English and Korean and use computers to surf the Internet and get information about foreign countries and universities from various brochures provided in the lounge. The lounge room can be also used for group-studying if reserved in advance. “Although the lounge was opened to the public on March 15th, 2011, not many students came to this place because it wasn’t well promoted until May. Anyone at CNU may use the materials here,” said Lee Yeo-bin, a teaching assistant for the lounge. CNU students can use the lounge from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday to Friday during the term.
