Japan to Encourage Water Environment Engineers with CNU

Chonnam National University (CNU) entered into a consortium with Chinese and Japanese universities to develop water environment engineers on last April 14th. President Kim Yoon-soo signed an agreement with Japan’s Nagasaki University to encourage highly specialized engineers concentrating on environmental conservation and sustainable use of water in East Asia. Annually, CNU can recommend a graduate student to be sent to the said Japanese university who shall be provided with a full scholarship until the end of his or her training. Accordingly, CNU has recommended Kim Young-ho (Alumnus, Dept. of Forestry) who entered Nagasaki University’s graduate school in the early part of this year. The consortium budget of 100 million Japanese Yen (approx. 1.3 billion Korean Won) is provided by the Japanese government for five years to support research projects conducted by Nagasaki University in cooperation with representative universities in South Korea and China, one of which is Chonnam National University.
 
LEC Holds “Saturday Brunch” Talk Show

 A talk show for Gwangju Foreign Language Network (GFN), “Saturday Brunch”, was recorded with a live audience at the Language Education Center (LEC) on April 23rd. The talk show, produced by the LEC, invites guests and holds discussions about current affairs. This time it visited the LEC to record a radio show with a live audience. Everyone who is interested in English was able to join the show and two teams with three students each gave speeches with the subject “All schools in Korea should be mixed sex schools”. Jang A-rin, a staff member at the LEC, said, “This English debate program attracted many CNU students and provided a great opportunity for university students to become familiar with English conversation.”
 
CNUians Enjoyed the Bandi Festival

The Bandi Fesitval was held at the Built-Transfer-Lease Residence Hall (BTL) of Chonnam National University from April 29th to April 30th. The Bandi Festival is an annual event, and BTL residents and other students who participated in the festival were able to eat, sing or hang out and enjoy living in the BTL through the various events. Students who live in the domitory invited their friends or family members inside their rooms. International students who live in the BTL also got the chance to introduce their traditional foods during the festival. In addition, some residents participated in a Talent Show, showing off their singing or dancing abilities. The Bandi Festival also held a flea market and provided food stalls in front of the BTL building. One of the residents, Moon A-ran (Sophomore, Dept. of Business Administration) said, “The Bandi Festival is great opportunity to mingle with friends and strangers including foreign students. I am glad to have a great time with my friends during this event.”
