테리 이글턴(Terry Eagleton) 초정강좌 개최

  
   Terry Eagleton, a prominent literary critic and great scholar of Marxism and Catholicism presented his special lecture at Gwangju Bank Hall at Chonnam National University (CNU) on last September 9th. The British and American Studies Institute and the Department of English Language and Literature co-organized this lecture, which was one of the 3rd Humanities Lecture Series under the theme “Satiability of the Humanities” sponsored by the National Research Foundation of Korea to encourage the popularity of the Humanities by inviting the world’s greatest scholars to Korea. Terry Eagleton’s lecture on the topic, “Faith and Foundationalism” had an important meaning to the students who are attending local university like CNU. The hall was overcrowded in-and-outside by professors, graduate and undergraduate students, and they listened to his words attentively during the lecture. Roh Seung-hee, Dean of the Dept. of English Language and Literature commented, “Terry Eagleton is unquestionably one of the most influential thinkers in the present world. Having his lecture on our campus was itself a big event. Students who came to the lecture must have experienced not only Eagleton’s top notch academic learning but also the importance of critical thinking on the problems of our society.” Terry Eagleton is presently a professor of English literature at the University of Lancaster, a visiting professor at the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a chair visiting professor at the University Notre Dame. He is now a progressive intelligent who has conducted the most active journalism activities in the U.K., and has written about forty books on the humanities including the literature, culture, and criticism.
