On November 29, the vote for the 42nd General Student Council (GSC) was closed after extended voting for 3 days. Many students seemed to display interest in the electicon because of the first woman candidate for the president of the GSC, but the voter turnout was only 53.38 percent. Then Kim Yu-ri and Lee Jeong-seong, an exclusive candidate, was elected with 83.59 perscent.

Counting the ballots was opened on Friday 8 p.m. Before vote counting, Kim Yu-ri, the candidate of president, expressed her feeling like that “Every time each college’s ballot boxes open, I am nervous.” In front of audience, candidates of president and vice-president showed their will that they will act for student regardless of the result. They looked they would do their best passionately if they were elected.

Candidates were elected with an 83.59 percent vote rate which was successful. After the ballot counting, Kim Yu-ri said “as our banner we will put us in schoolmates’ thought.” Then Lee Jeong-seong, an elected vice-president, said “I will approach to students as a familiar person and be a vice-president who thinks and plans with student together.” Gwack Seong-yong, previous vice-president, said “atmosphere of this election campaign was brighter than that of last campaign. So I felt change from them.”

It had some problems. The Election Administration Committee lost the ballot boxes of two departments, Dept. of Music and Dept. of Korean Traditional Music. Therefore its votes were decided to count as blank ballots. College of Dental’s student council was not elected because all of 7 students did not vote. From now on, GSC needs to be changed and developed to raise vote rate. The previous vice-president said “vote rate means barometer of GSC’s activity of the year.”

Voting ended, however, what do they do from now? During this voting period, one student passing polling booth complained that he could not feel the importance of voting since the GSC members have not changed their activities until now. Before and after vote counting two candidates always said “to student for them we will show trust and to student against them we will show endeavor.” Kim Yu-ri added “first of all, thought that I should run for student comes to mind not that I am happy.” we expect coexistence between GSC and student. As their banner “Think In”, it is needed that they make all students’ league not their own league coming in students’ thought and mind.
