My University Life with Chonnam Tribune

I was really happy the first time I ever meet the Chonnam Tribune . Since then I have been a hot reader of the magazine. After I read the last issue, I empathized with many articles and got lots of useful information. I especially agree with In-depth Report. As a matter of fact, many students don’t like to write a report and they just copy the contents from internet sites and put them into their reports.

Writing a report offers a chance of forwarding our own original ideas.  It was a really good article and may awaken students from their wrong ways. Chonnam Tribune always gives me useful information about our university life and it also is helpful to study English.

I feel sorry, however, there are many students who do not know the Tribune at all. I hope that lots of students get to know this useful English magazine more and more by means of active publicity. I'm going to go on letting my friends know of this issue as well. I'm sure that this passionate magazine will thrive even more, and I hope that it   continues publishing nice articles for us as it has always been doing.

I read the article, “International Marriage, Is that the only alternative?” in the Chonnam Tribune, Vol.39. No.4 (273) and find it interesting. So, I write these comments. At first, I thank Chonnam Tribune and ELOA for arranging debate on current problematic issues in Korea. Korean has a traditional ethnicity as well as a preserved culture which nowadays is coming under a lot of pressure not only in rural areas but also in major metropolises, as Korea is becoming a multi-business & multicultural country. Western or modern cultures are hastily invading Korea. But I don’t believe globalization and international marriage are parallel, and an alternative to rural families. Marriage is a mutual understanding, commitment and dedication to a social life. I totally agreed on the point that language, culture, colors and behavior are obstacles to the couples of intercultural marriages. The obstacles also come from family, friends, personal values, expectations, and sex-role expectations. My opinion, the debaters of ELOA have picked up upon the actual conflicts on international marriages and the government should give priority to finding an acceptable solution, if they want to continue ethnic diversity like for e.g. in the USA. Finally, to overcome these barriers, intercultural couples need to be open-minded and honest and respectful of each others’ opinions to focus on positive ways for a better conjugal life.
