Residents Chat

What’s happening in the dormitory?
A: During the summer, many air conditioners installed in each room failed to remove the humidity, resulting in mold problems. I had to throw most of my clothes and bags out due to the mold.

B: There are not enough laundry machines in the dorms. We have to wait for a long time to get our laundry done. Also, as there is only one water dispenser per floor, some of us walk all the way to the other side of the building to get water.

C: Many international students, including me, are unaware of who our roommates will be. My roommate and I have different sleeping schedules, which makes it hard for us to either sleep or study in our room.

What’s happening outside the dormitory?
A: The dormitory restaurant's lunchtime hours are from 11:30 to 13:30. Since many students take classes that start at 12:00, they have to rush to have lunch and arrive at class on time. For that reason, some students, including myself, choose to skip lunch.

B: Noise is a constant issue for dorm residents. Many of us find it hard to fall asleep amid the sound of loud conversations or fighting cats and are awakened by the sound of construction or constant leaf-blowing.

What are we asking for?
A: I wish we could have new air conditioners installed. I want the dorm office to expand convenient facilities as well because the dorms lack amenities.

B: It would be nice if the residence hall office could match students with similar sleep schedules or living preferences.

C: The dormitory lunch hours need to be extended to ensure a relaxed mealtime for residents. Plus, it would be great if the dorm office took better care of loud passersby or pushed back the time of construction or leaf-blowing.
