Q: What should be considered before touring Korea?
A: One thing to be aware of when visiting popular beaches in Korea is that the lifeguards can quickly ruin your fun. Even though you’ve traveled for hours to visit a beach, they can ban everyone from swimming if they think the waves are too big. Since I’m from California, this can be extremely frustrating, as the waves are one of the biggest reasons that I visit the beach in the first place!

Q: Where is your favorite travel spot in Korea?
A: I really enjoy coastal hikes and island getaways, and Cheongsan-do is arguably my favorite for its mix of beaches and seascape views. Located in Wando, the island has mellow sand beaches, deep pebble beaches, and even a wild and rocky beach facing south to the open sea. Especially, this rocky beach is a natural wonder that makes you feel like you’ve truly reached the end of Korea.

Q: Which style of travel do you prefer?
A: I prefer spontaneous day trips that require under five minutes of planning. After a quick glance at the Kakao Map, I choose a destination, throw my stuff in a sling bag, and then hit the road. I like these brief and solitary car excursions that only take a few hours until I’m back home for dinner, a shower, and the warmth of my own bed.
