The Chonnam National University (CNU) Library celebrated the 70th anniversary of its founding at Jeongbomaru on October 30. The university members, including CNU President Jung Sungtaek, CNU Library Director, professors, students, alumni association members, officials, and guests of honor, attended the commemoration ceremony and saw commemorative exhibitions. The exhibitions showcase ancient books and items kept at the library for archival and accessible collections and visualize the library's history. It opened as a classroom-sized space in 1953, a year after the opening of the university, but it has now grown on a nationwide scale with seven libraries across three campuses, containing more than two million books.
      In his commemorative speech, President Jung said, “The CNU Library has led the university's development by sticking to its role of fostering talent, knowledge research, and win-win development, as well as external expansion in response to the changing times.” The library currently serves as a key institution, especially contributing to forming a local community and developing a reading culture among locals. Library Director Chang Woo-kwon highlighted, “Based on the achievements of the past 70 years, we will do our best to support our glocal university as an academic and information repository.”
