Rick: I just worry that you’re gonna be all the way in California and, you know,          we’re not gonna be able to help you, you know, if things don’t pan out*.

From The Mitchells vs. the Machines

*Pan out: The idiom to ”pan out” means that something has been done successfully. It originated from the method that gold miners mixed a handful of sand and water in a pan to search for gold. “Fortunately, things have just panned out well” is one of the examples you can make good use of it.

"The Mitchell vs. the Machines" is about family bonding throughout the fight against the machines while taking a road trip. Daughter Katie and her father Rick have a bad relationship. In order to create memories with his daughter and make up for their distance, Rick decides to take her on a family trip. Despite his efforts, their different values and lifestyles continue to create a rift between them. Meanwhile, a robot created by a global company and the Mitchell family get captured by the robots, and they unite to fight against the robots. The material for the movie has worth it for modern people to think about the problems of family relationships and a techno-apocalypse.

Movie Review

Kim Myeong-jin: This movie reflects the modern world by depicting the evolution of technology and its impact on society. I could be one of the people who rely on their smartphones in the animation. Watching it, I thought about the possibility of machines dominating humans in the distant future, as depicted in the movie. Additionally, Rick gradually narrows the distance between Katie and him by adapting to modern devices. It was impressive. ★★★★★

Cho Eun-seo: If robots have feelings, what is the difference between humans and robots? How far can robots improve our lives and make them worse at the same time? This movie is meaningful in that it makes us think about technology’s impact on our lives and the right direction. I like the movie's colorful action scenes and topic, which is too profound but I recommend this movie anyway! It is good to try to relax and watch it. ★★★★★

Baek Hye-lynn: This movie is very colorful. It is very cute and emotional, like a teenage girl's diary. The drawing style of the animation is also very cute, and I got very attached to the characters. Especially, the Mitchell family's dog is so attractive. this movie is a very touching story about the importance of family rather than winning the war against the machines. Why don't you enjoy watching it with your family? ★★★★★

Jo Su-hwa: This movie makes me think again about the meaning of family. It is touching to see the Mitchell family gather together when they overcome the crisis even after fighting the machines. The most praiseworthy thing about this movie is that even the scenes that can be obvious cliché are comical and interesting. It is a really heart-warming movie. ★★★★★

Noh Chae-rin: The machines in the movie try to conquer the human world. The message of this movie, which shows the problems of modern society, seems to be quite heavy. The animation is seen as criticizing modern society where most human life is mechanized, but we can enjoy it with appropriate action scenes and funny scenes. However, there is also the disadvantage that the story flows into plot which is too obvious. ★★★★☆
