2023 Nigeria Presidential Election Result: The 2023 presidential election in Nigeria was held on February 25, which has Africa's highest GDP but also has the largest population in Africa. This competition was noticeable as none of the candidates were an incumbent or a former military leader for the first time since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999. Nigeria’s presidential elections have typically been two-horse races between two parties; the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party. However, this year’s vote had a third strong contender, Peter Obi, who is running under a largely unknown Labour Party. He was touted as a credible alternative to the two major candidates. Consequently, election officials declared Bola Tinubu from APC the winner of the election, keeping the ruling party in power.

Tik Tok Being Banned: The United States has recently issued orders banning the use of Tik Tok on government-issued devices. It is a massively popular social media platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. The White House on February 27 gave all government agencies 30 days to eliminate Tik Tok on federal devices and systems, citing data privacy and national security concerns. Meanwhile, lawmakers in the U.S. are expected to enact a bill that would ban the application outright in the country. Tik Tok has been trying to convince detractors that it would not give the Chinese government users’ data and criticized that the bans are abusing state power to suppress other countries' companies. Nonetheless, actions similar to the ban are followed in Canada, the European Union etc.

Windsor Framework: Post-Brexit achievement was agreed upon by the United Kingdom Prime Minister and European Commission President on February 27 to deal with post-Brexit problems in Northern Ireland. The fact that the Republic of Ireland remains with the EU after Brexit has led to complications on the trade front. The current process means certain goods from Great Britain must be checked at the port in Northern Ireland on arrival and then enter Ireland. The new plan will be implemented to divide goods into two different lanes, to separate the designated products that need to be checked, and reduce inconvenience.
