Matthias Erzberger: Let us gain mercy where we can, but for God's sake.* Let's make peace.

From All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

*For God's sake: It is an expression that means "please" or "what the hell". The expression ‘for one’s sake’ means it is for someone, but adding the word ‘God’ shifts the meaning of it to an exclamation of irritation. Use this expression in everyday life like a native speaker. ”For God’s sake, stop talking!” Can be a good example.

“All Quiet on the Western Front,“ set in World War I, is a war movie that depicts the horror of war without filtering the reality. Unlike other war movies with thrilling battle scenes, this film focuses on showing the cold reality of war. The show does not glorify deaths in the battle field. By emphasizing the tragedy of war, these scenes intend to make the audience feel a sense of discomfort and powerlessness in the horror of war, which makes it easier for the audience to perceive the anti-war message and not consume the scene as an element of joy.

Movie Review

Jeon Da-nul: First of all, it was unfortunate that I could not watch this film in the theatre and only watched it on the telly. Also, while watching it, I got scared deep in my heart. I was so shocked when I saw the generals eating luxurious meals while watching the soldiers dying. I wish there were no more wars. ★★★★★

Ha Soo-yeon: This movie vividly depicts the brutality of war and clearly shows the anti-war theme of the movie. In particular, the most memorable part of the movie was the eyes of the soldiers. Forced into the battle field without knowing the reality of war, the eyes of the soldiers were filled with fear and emptiness. Through this movie, we became against the folly and inhumanity of war and have a chance to think again about the meaning of war. ★★★★☆

Hong You-bin: "All Quiet on the Western Front" is a powerful and haunting movie that portrays the cruel reality of war. While watching this movie, I understood why war should not happen. I shed tears without realization because of the sad stories of the main characters' comrades. ★★★★★

Youn Ye-jin: Among the war movies I have seen, this movie seems to be the best at showing the horror of war. For two hours, I got so immersed in the film that I found myself holding my breath while watching it. Through the character Paul, I could see the changes of young soldiers and their view on war, from fervor and illusion to despair and fear. It can be said that the perfect combination of the actor's acting skills, sound, and story make these kinds of movies masterpieces. ★★★★★

Soung Yun-seo: Through this movie, I was able to feel the horror of World War I. Many colleagues of Paul die in front of him. There is no time to mourn their deaths on the battlefield. They fight and kill each other until the very last minutes before the war ends. When the war is over, all battles are over as well. Through this film, I learned about the cruel and miserable history of World War I, which I did not know well. ★★★★☆
