Yang Yung Wei (Global Korea Scholarship Student, Language Education Center, Taiwan)

Q: Have you enjoyed a festival in your country before?
A: I studied at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, which is located at the center of the city. Therefore, there is not much space to hold big activities. However, at CNU, the grass in front of the library, the field, and other corners of the campus are all places where it is possible for a festival to take place. That is also why I felt the festival experience at CNU was quite special for me. These kinds of activities enable my friends and me to enjoy the day here more easily. I appreciated that all these things happened here. Especially, the weather and the sky in Gwangju are always so amazing. The environment really made the memories much more unforgettable!

Q: What did you like about the festival?
A: At the beginning of the semester, Korean universities usually host annual festivals and invite singers to perform. This is quite different from Taiwan’s campus festivals. We do not have this kind of event for college students. Therefore, I was very much looking forward to this event at CNU. And it turned out to be much more exciting than I thought. Students gathered together, had a picnic, and followed the rap of hip-hop music. All these moments made me feel fresh and young! The festival’s “college vibe” is just so similar to how youth is portrayed in movies, which made it seem like I was not experiencing reality.

Q: What would you sell at the flea market as part of the festival, if you could become a vendor?
A: As Gong Cha is famous in Korea, the drink I would want to sell must be bubble tea!! Since I am a big fan of bubbles, I would like to boil the bubbles and combine it with oat milk or soy milk tea to make traditional and wonderful Taiwanese bubble tea! I am sure it would be popular!
