  CNU held a ceremony to mark the 41st anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement at Yongbong Hall on May 18. The university’s faculty, staff, alumni and students, including President Jung Sungtaek and Alumni Association Council President Park Heon-taek, attended the ceremony co-hosted by the CNU May 18 Institute and the CNU Association of Alumni for Democracy (CAAD). With CAAD members, CAAD Co-President Lee Yeong-song and General Student Council President Lee Myeong-no also took part in the event. President Jung said in his speech, “We should make more of an effort to put the value of the spirit, courage, and commitment of the day in 1980 into history, when CNU students stepped out of the Main Gate with their bare hands to realize democracy, human rights and justice.” He also mentioned the current Myanmar protests and sent a message of support. The event finished with Faculty Council President Kim Do-hyung reading the declaration “To All the Intellectuals of the Republic of Korea” that CNU professors issued on May 14, 1980, and attendees also sang the song “March for the Beloved.”
