▲ Guidelines for counting ballots for the presidential election system are explained to students.

Chonnam National University (CNU)’s Faculty Council held a professors’ vote regarding the presidential election system from April 4 to April 8. It has constantly pushed to maintain a direct election system despite the government policy to adopt an indirect election system in choosing the presidents of national universities. The ballot counting was conducted in Yongbong Hall at 4 p.m. on April 8. The results of the vote were 50.5% for the direct election system, and 48% for the indirect election system. The chairman of the CNU Faculty Council said, "The number of professors supporting the indirect election system was much higher than I expected. Also, although the outcome of the CNU faculty votes are in favor of changing the current election system into the direct vote system we have to go through a complicated process to keep the direct election system. Therefore, lots of difficulties are expected."
