▲ CNU students and local residents in Laos

CNU students participated in international volunteering in Laos from December 23, 2015 to January 14, 2016. Since 2011, the international volunteering program successfully accomplished its purpose to help local residents live in better circumstances and to improve the growth of local communities in underdeveloped countries in Africa and Southeast Asia. This year, 13 students and one staff member went to Vang Vieng in Laos for volunteering. The volunteering team members provided educational services such as teaching locals to use the computer and English, as well as manual labor services to help repair the Community Learning Center and spread Korean traditional culture to the local people. They experienced the local culture and built friendly relationships between Laotians and Koreans. Kim Won-hee (Sophomore, Dept. of Food Engineering) said, “Initially, it was hard for me to adapt to Laotian culture but as time passed, I felt freer. Volunteering offered me precious opportunities to understand the world and to cultivate a sharing mind.”
