The "100%" candidates won the elections for the 2015 General Student Council (GSC) and General Female Student Council (GFSC) on November 28th, 2014. Originally, voting for the 2015 G(F)SC election began on November 25th, but it was extended due to a low voting participation and insufficient rate approving of ballot counting. It has to be delayed until over more than 50% of voters to be approved. Furthermore, the election period was over on November 26th, the result came out at dawn of the next day. The Central Election Management Committee (CEMC) said, “We decided to postpone the schedule because the meeting for ballot counting prolonged into the late night.”
The 100% is the sole candidate for this year’s elections followed by the last year. Kim Han-seong (Senior, Department of Geography) and Jeong Sang-yeup (Senior, Faculty of Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences) registered as the candidates for GSC President and Vice President. As for the GFSC, Gang Da-hee (Senior, Department of Landscape Architecture) and Joo Mi-ri (Sophomore, Department of Ethical Education) registered as the President and the Vice President nominee. In order to win the elections, they needed over 50% of the total turnout of the voters.
According to the result of the ballot counting, only 52.08 percent of the electorate (8,191 out of 15,727) voted in the election in this year. And, 73.10 percent of the voters were agreed for the 100% candidates for the GSC (agree: 5,971, disagree: 1,790 invalid: 497, error: 47). For the GFSC, out of 7,934 voters, 4,136 students voted, 75.18% of ballots were in favor of the 100% candidates (agree: 3,113, disagree: 567, invalid: 459, error: 33). Kim Han-seong (Senior, Department of Geography) and Jeong Sang-yeup (Senior, Faculty of Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences) elected as 2015 GSC President and Vice President, and Gang Da-hee (Senior, Department of Landscape Architecture) and Joo Mi-ri (Sophomore, Department of Ethical Education) named as 2014 GFSC President and Vice President.
What follows is an interview with the 100% candidates after the ballot counting. The GSC said, “Thanks to all the students who participated in the election and we will work hard to carry out all pledges we promised for CNUians.” Also, GFSC added, “The GFSC will be more active and make various projects. So please give us many students’ interest and support.” The Chonnam Tribune hope the 2015 GSC and GFSC will work hard for the all CNU students and try listen to the students’ voices over the next year.
