The award ceremony of the 2014 English Essay Contest  was held in the office of the dean of student affairs on the second floor of the University Administration at 11 a.m. on November 12^th, 2014. This year is the 62^nd anniversary of the foundation of Chonnam National University and the 46^th anniversary of the Chonnam Tribune which published the first issue on July 15, 1968. In order to commemorate these anniversaries, the Chonnam Tribune hosted the contest on October 11^th, 2014.
     The contest was open to undergraduate and graduate students studying at universities located in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeonnam Province. International students of English as a second language were also allowed to participate in the contest. Following the format of previous years, the applicants first registered from September 15^th to October 8^th, and wrote their essay on the topics posted on the CNU Press and Broadcasting Center’s official website at 2 p.m. over a period of four hours on November 9^th. 
     The topic was as follows: The National Institute of the Korean Language changed one of the definitions of the word “love” in the Standard Korean Dictionary early this year. It used to be described as “a passionate feeling of affection or longing for somebody by being attracted to the person’s allure,” now it is defined as “a feeling of affection between a man and a woman.” Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The new definition of love should be revised because it is the heterosexual-centered definition. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
