Korean traditional music group “Hwaibudong” at the Chonnam National University (CNU) met Brent Byers, Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul on April 18th. “The U.S. Embassy contacted our group first. They got information about our group through media and interested in Hwaibudong’s belief and activity” said, Park Ji-sun, Leader of Hwaibudong established by Traditional Korean Music department students who all concern unpopularity and future of our traditional music. The meeting was made on the lawn in front of College of Fine Arts in our campus for about 40 minutes from 1:50 pm. Brent Byers and five members of Hwaibudong talked about Korean traditional music and the members’ belief. Hwaibudong also showed short performance of singing together with Gayageum (Korean zither) and songs based on Sijo (traditional three-verse Korean poem).
