The 1st story: We’re Still Hot for the Royal Wedding

By Jung Ha-na, Overseas Correspondent

“I do.” on a bride’s response with just these two words in slightly quivered voice, people all over the world shouted for joy and celebrated ‘a couple’. Yes, they were Prince William and Kate Middleton who finally tied the knot in the Westminster Abbey, London on 29 April. To see the couple on wedding day, about 1.1million visitors from other regions of England and other countries came to London on that day or before and enthusiastic fans for the royal couple had already set their seats around Westminster Abbey where the wedding ceremony were supposed to be held and along the route the couple’s parade to be on such as Buckingham Palace, and stayed there until the day.
Since the couple declared their marriage to the public, the long-run festive for the wedding has started. On arriving here, I could see a lot of things showing that the royal wedding of Wills and Kate was coming soon. From posters, dishes, T-shirts, limit edition of Oyster cards(London transportation card) they were printed on, masks of the royal families faces, the performances imitating the royal wedding to the news and social media making it headlines, anything people could express their real delights with the wedding has come out. Still now, even 2 weeks past the wedding, those souvenirs sell like hot cakes.
I wanted to see the wedding couple near Buckingham Palace but couldn’t get through there. At 8.30, almost routes to the Palace were already blocked and from the evening before the day, the police had restricted the access to the places related wedding and some of public transportation stopped their operation so it was hard to move quickly and we had to see the wedding on a huge screen at the Green Park with about 8,000 people. On the way to the park, I could see many people who wanted to share a joy for themselves holding streets parties and -they got on to the late night- and quite many stores proceeded events- I could get a discount nearly 60%! On the street and in the park, with friends, family, lovers or even pets, as drinking, eating, singing, dancing or showing their dress to people, they are, literally, enjoying it in their styles. It was totally different from my expectation that it would be a solemn and quiet wedding.
Oxford Street
For about 3 hours of the whole wedding, I felt it was splendid with royals from other royal countries and celebrities, and majestic with the choirs. It was a surprising scene that world famous people came to one place. I couldn’t believe I was there when the British royal wedding was on in about 30 years. And addition, the media paid attention to traces that showed how much Wills thought of his mother, Diana, in the wedding from the guests, wedding present, a nuptial song played in her wedding and Kate’s engagement ring. At the end of the wedding, all people stood up and sang a national anthem waving the Union Jacks. It didn’t seem just a song for the nation: it was a hope the couple’s and British royal’s happy future.
After the big event, two ladies get huge and keen interest from the world. Those are Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa Middleton. Of course, Kate has been lots of love and attention from the public since she started dating with Wills. So called Kate kitsch, a blue sapphire ring and the blue Issa dress continued to gain enormous popularity among women. Moreover, she made some issues like answering with ‘NO’ when she had been asked to obey future husband William in the engagement, she is a commoner, even though she involved in the upper class, marrying to the royal and little older than other brides at wedding age.(Her age is 29, older than William by about 6 months.) Like her, her sister Pippa also became a star with her gorgeous feature in white dress on the wedding day. People are wondering to whom she will marry and her life.
To see the mood of people’s attitude to the royal or the articles it is dealt, I could find there are a lot of changes. Almost half of royal couples broke up and went through hardships so the public’s worries about the royal have risen. However, they really love their royal culture and try to protect it from conservatives. Welcoming this wedding, they’re eagerly looking forward to happiness of the Royal of United Kingdom.
Now, as a Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the couple goes on a private honeymoon. Complete their sweet journey, Wills will come back and go to his work, The Royal Air Force (RAF) and do formal activities with his wife. I hope they will be the best royal couple. Congratulation, again!
