Enjoy Your Campus Life with Smartphones

What comes to mind when you hear the word “smartphone”? You might think of more advanced functions, different from regular phones, such as internet browsing, email capabilities and the ability to read document formats. As mobile technology has been developing rapidly, today's phones are getting smarter each day. This technology has made possible many things that once seemed impossible. As a result, now we can perform singular or multiple functions anywhere and at anytime -- leading to the term ‘smartphones'. Wouldn’t you like to know how we use those functions? In keeping with that, the Chonnam Tribune looked into how one particular student spends a day with her smartphone. –Ed.

My Smartphone Changed My Daily Life

By Kim Han-nah, Student Editor

I would like to tell you about my special day with a smartphone. As soon as I woke up, I checked what kind of skin care I needed through the “Beauty” application. In spring, the weather is usually good but too dry. As I expected, the application recommended a moisturizing cream that contained an Aqua ingredient and a mist. Whoops! The mist that I had been recommended was a birthday gift that I received last year. Until now, I had thought that mist was going to be cheap, so I left it unopened in a corner of my dressing table. However, the application informed me that the price of mist was expensive. After I discovered its price, I decided the mist must work well. It was pleasant start to the day.
Though I was pleased with my discovery, I was late to class because of it. In addition, I had completely forgotten that I had to printout materials from my e-class. I was embarrassed because the professor’s lecture was so fast that I could not understand it without handouts. In this case, I had to write like lightening. My wrist hurt, so I looked around and found a student who had downloaded the handout through the Chonnam National University (CNU) application. I got access to the application and finished the class all right. I was pleased with my smartphone one more time.
My schedule was a bit hectic today, and I only had time for a rest at lunchtime. At that time, music blared out from speakers on the campus. I heard a very impressive song when I was passing the speaker at Student Union I. Counting on my smartphone, I immediately opened the Shazam application, and I held the phone as close to the speaker as possible. My smartphone found the song’s information, including the singer and title at once. It took a little time, but that was fine. Without the Shazam application, I would have been thinking about it throughout the next class. I regarded smartphones as a amazing devices, because I was able to learn even trivial information like this right away.
After finishing all my classes, I came down the stairs of Hongdo. At that moment, a message popped up on the phone. The message came from Ti-Mon, a social networking website. I then accessed the Naver application. Ti-Mon’s product was a discount coupon to TGIF. This item was limited to 200 customers. I bought that coupon at once. A few days later, I heard that the coupon was sold out within 10 minutes. In this case, I realized the importance of information and speed again. As long as I have a smartphone, that is an unnecessary worry for me.
To return home, I went to the bus stop with my boyfriend. On the way to the bus stop, I turned on the Gwangju Bus application. I frequently use the Gwangju Bus application. I think it is the most useful. This time, the Gwangju Bus application gave me an idea. First, I sent my boyfriend home, and then I checked the location of his bus through the Gwangju Bus application. Before he arrived at his stop, I had already reached it by another bus and I was waiting for him with a hot coffee. He was very surprised and touched.
I scarcely go without using my smartphone. Now, the smartphone is a part of my life. Even though I only have a few applications, I feel that using a smartphone has changed my life completely. In addition, I believe my life will be even more convenient if I use more applications. In order to use a smartphone, users have to be smarter than before. I will apply myself and be a smart user who gets full mileage out of her smartphone!
