현실에 충실하자!

‘Present’ has two meanings as a noun: One means ‘now’ and the other means a ‘gift’. Some people say that the present time is a gift from God. I think what they mean is we should cherish the present as like a precious thing given by God. I previously mentioned in my first desk column: “It is no use over crying milk.” Now I believe that keep focusing on the present is better than being obsessed with the past. Also, I think a bright future is based on living a full life at the present. As you know, we have only about six weeks left until the end of this year. I am not sure I have been keeping to my plans faithfully since the beginning of this year. However, I decided not to feel distressed for my unaccomplished plans and at the same time I will not complain that I have only a few weeks left. The reason is that I know it is no use complaining about that, besides, I have ‘my present’. If I do live my life with all my heart and soul at the present, it will give me a gift in the future. Plus, I believe that a sincere life at the present can be the complement of my insincere past, even though it is not perfect.
Some of you already might have given up your plans because you may think it is too late. In my case, from early on this year, I have planned to finish reading one of my major textbooks from beginning to the end. This is kind of embarrassing, but honestly, I just read the first chapter till now. However, I will not give it up and try to finish it by the end of this year. You must notice that this year is not over yet and there is still your present. As like “Rabbit and Turtle”, a traditional fairy tale, it is not the end till it really ends.
Still now, your present time is passing you by quickly. As you know, it soon becomes the past. Therefore, CNUians, please keep going and doing your best to fulfill plans made at the beginning of the year until this coming December 31st. Do not give up your present yet and cherish it like the only last chance you have!
