CNU started a new job support program on June 21st. It is the Employment Ace Program and will operate until November. About 200 students were selected out of many applicants and are participating in the program hosted by the Division of Employment Support (DES), which has been providing many other job support programs for CNUians. This new program is different from other existing programs, below is a summary of what the Employment Ace Program can do for students.
The Employment Ace Program is planned to provide practical and useful support service to CNU students who are preparing for employment in a tight job market. As the program is aimed at helping participants join a company, they will be divided into several groups and will be trained by groups during the program period. The program consists of many special lectures, vocational tests and training camps. In addition, they adopted competition rules to encourage students to actively participate in the program. Some participants who are likely to underperform will be dropped from the program through three screening processes, while every month some who display excellence will be awarded prizes. One of the participants, Son So-young (Senior, Dept. of Clothes and Textiles) said, “I already attended other job support programs operated by the DES, and I realized it is helpful to prepare for a job search. I am still agonizing over my future but this program will help me prepare for it.”
In recent years most students who had participated in the job support programs provided by the DES answered that the DES’s programs were helpful and well planned. However, according to the statistics, the employment rate of CNU graduates is still lower than the rate for graduates from other universities. For example, CNU graduates’ employment rate for the first half of 2009 is 34.5% while Kyungpook National University (KNU) is 47%. So, though CNU’s job support programs are well-done but there still seem to be some weaknesses. It is expected that this new Employment Ace Program will improve the existing job search support programs. Lee Duek-yeon, one of the main staff in charge of the Employment Ace Program said, “Most companies want to hire a talented person with a good achievements and willing to take new challenges. Whatever you want to do, that experience should improve your ability. Analyze yourself and prepare your future with us!”
