Course Registration at Osaka University

Students at Chonnam National University (CNU) must be busy now that the new semester has started, but here in Osaka we are still on vacation, our long spring vacation. Still, there are three weeks left before the second term begins and, course registration has not been completed yet.
Course registration for exchange students at Osaka University is different from that of students at CNU. First of all, I am not a normal exchange student, but an exchange student of OUSSEP, an acronym for ‘Osaka University Short-term Student Exchange Program for English speaking exchange students. The OUSSEP is composed of about thirty students from various countries around the world. It is not run by Osaka University but by the International Student Center. Therefore, course registration is a little different from that of normal students at Osaka University.
OUSSEP course registration cannot be simpler and more analogue. Since we basically take lectures in English, we are not provided with a wide selection of classes. Students are given the chance to pre-attend about fifteen to twenty classes for approximately two weeks. Then, they are given a form and check off which lectures they wish to take for the semester and submit it to the staff. What an analogue way of course registration! Several weeks later, the staff gives each student a timetable to confirm their choices. In a few weeks, the fall semester of Japanese University and the second course registration will be set up. How’s your campus life at CNU?
