Do It What You Can Do well!

    Chonnam National University (CNU) recently held an instructive lecture, “A Growth Process of Domestic Venture Corporations with reference to an example of Ahn Lab Incorporation (ALI),” inviting Ahn Chul-soo who was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of ALI. He gave a speech when it comes to his life as an owner of ALI, based on his own view of life for one hour in front of students of CNU, school personnel, and ordinary person about 1000.

    When he was under graduated student in the department of medical college, by assistant, he came to recognize the notion of computer virus. After that, he walked the path as an inventor of vaccine program and doctor for seven years. However, it was difficult for him to manage both of stuffs. As a result, he chose the inventor of program, stopping working as a professor of medical college because he regarded more important making vaccine programs in order to contribute the field of developing computer.

    He told that he went through hardship when he first founded ALI, owing to the lack of knowledge of management. He had no idea how to manage his company and people now that he had only so far focused on studying medical science. In spite of his narrow knowledge of management, he overcame it by going abroad to receive the course of management. In this part, he emphasized that opportunities are found in time of crisis, saying, “Unless he have gone through hardship, he couldn’t know what he solved and where his weak points were in.” Everyone must be facing with plenty of hard time and good time in their life. Generally, most of people have a tendency to endure hard period and not to do any effort in hard time without any trial to solve the problems compared with in good time. On the other hand, people in good time generally try to do something to gain more benefits. Obviously, it should be adverse. It means that people in hard times should make an effort to do something. Using this way would be shortcut of reaching what you want.

    Ahn addressed how to grow Ahn presenting two examples of virus incidents: CIH and Y2K virus. Both of them put his company into more leading company in antivirus fields as his company made a comment and giving proper precaution to the public. He additionally declared that social fixed ideas which are wrong can cause serious problems with his example giving critical comments to the society.

    Now he is in charge of a professor at KAIST after he resigned from CEO of ALI. When he made a decision to be a professor, he suddenly realized the importance of education for under graduated students. Speaking of his favorite motor, he pursues being a person who is socially meaningful and able to give a hand to the society.” That is one of the reasons why he made a speech at CNU.

    Lastly, Ahn answered in the respond of question how to raise the power of concentration, “People should pursue a career which is suitable for them in accordance with their respective interest. It can create power of concentration, interest and efficiency.”
