CNU Library Signed Agreement with Songgwangsa

Chonnam National University Library will digitize ancient documents from the Seongbo Museum at Songgwangsa and post them online for the general public in the coming year. The library and Songgwangsa have signed an agreement to digitize ancient documents, Buddhist literature and paintings that belong to the temple and display them online for public viewing on July 21th. Experts are currently making a list of about five thousand cultural assets in Songgwangsa and classifying them. The classified data will be digitized by the end of the year. The library’s digital archive specializes in Honam studies and has already collected over 30 thousand ancient documents. Prof. Rhee Jung-ae, a chief of the CNUL said, “We aim to provide digital archiving service of our ancient cultural assets. All of this data can be helpful to CNUians in their studies, especially those majoring in Honam studies.”



CNU Student-Athletes Won Championships

  CNU’s specialty students of the Dept. of Physical Education achieved outstanding performances in various championships and tournaments. At the 2009 National Gymnastics Championship held from August 21st to 24th, Jeon Dan-bi (Freshman) took second place in the women’s all-round gymnastics competition. She said, “I am proud of the honors we brought back for CNU. We have all been training very hard.” Lee Su-ji (Sophomore) was awarded a gold medal in the uneven bars and a silver medal for the vaulting horse. Bae Mul-eum (Sophomore) won two bronze medals in the all-round gymnastics competition and the uneven bars. Lee Ji-sun (Sophomore ) took first in three swimming competitions including the 90th National Swimming Championship.



Meijo University Visited CNU

Three professors and 18 studnents of Meijo University (MU) in Japan visited CNU Yeosu Campus to participate in Korea-Japan international exchange program from August 31st to September 5 th. They attended a special lecture on Korea culture and the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea. On September 4th, they also visited CNU Gwangju Campus and formed a close friendship with students of Dept. of Japanese Language & Literature. The College of Culture and Social Sciences at CNU will have a plan to offer exchange programs with MU.

Gold Pirze Winner in English Speaking Contest

  Lee Ji-hun, who graduated from the Dept. of Business Administration on Aug. 26th, was awarded a gold prize in the 2009 University English Speaking Contest. In its final selection, the group discussion about teaching classes in English, 253 university students competed with other participants for a prize. He started studying English intensively in 2007, when he joined an English conversation club and began to practice speaking English in everyday life. He also went to English camp in Canada. Shortly before he graduated, he was offered a position at Posco, his future company.
