CNU NURI Project Awarded for Excellence

   CNU’s New University for Regional Innovation (NURI) Project, the Human Resources for Electronics, Information and Consumer Electronics Industry Project, won an award for excellent achievements in the field of Industry-University Cooperation as judged by the Korea Research Foundation on March 20th. The project was evaluated to be a success in improving the employment rate of graduates and constructing a well-organized industry-university cooperation system. The project team established a joint faculty, developed industry-university collaborated curricula including Industry Internship, Technical Training and Joint Research courses and provided students with scholarships. It helped students improve their English proficiency and to enhance their self-confidence. Lee Bae-ho, leader of the project team and a Professor in the School of Electronics and Computer Engineering said, “We have some troubles doing the project as students and professors’ participation rate was low but it was a very worthwhile project.”

 

 

 

 


CNU Demonstrates Educational Initiative and Superiority

   CNU was highly praised in two project evaluations, the Educational Capacity Enhancement Project (ECEP) and the second-round national World Class University (WCU) Project to enhance the competitive strength of Korean higher education by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. In the implementation of the ECEP, CNU’s scholarship provision rates and international programs were appreciated and awarded at the highest score among 10 universities. With four projects selected under the WCU project, CNU was also evaluated as the university that has the most projects among applicant universities. As the beneficiary institution, CNU will be awarded a government subsidy and employ foreign professors, establishing a new department and promote research for conducting selected projects. Mo Young-chae, Official of the Office of Planning & Coordination, said, “The Government’s financial support helps CNU develop and performs various education and research programs continually and efficiently. Therefore it would give good chances for our students and also CNU could become a great example to other universities.”


 


A Conference about Sexual Minorities Being Held in CNU

  CNU’s two institutions, the Institute of Women’s Studies and the Center for Public Interest & Human Rights Law jointly held an academic conference about sexual minorities and unfair discrimination against them in the International Council Hall of Law School on March 26. At the conference, four scholars in the various fields of literature, philosophy, sociology and law presented their academic papers on the subjects as follows: “Korean Tendency of Sexual Minorities Literature”, “Transgenderism and Emptiness of Gender”, “Female Sexual Minority’s Experience with and Double Discrimination” and “Legal Issues and Tasks of Sexual Minorities”. Cha Seon-ja, the chief of the Institute of Woman’s Studies said, “CNUians did not have any roundtable discussion about the problems of sexual minorities. I think this conference provided them with a unique opportunity to understand the reality of sexual minorities with unfair and invisible discrimination. I hope they have a continuous interest in such social problems that involve sexual minorities.”

 



Ahn Tae-young, Winning the Student Scientist Prize

    Ahn Tae-young, a CNU graduate medical science student, was awarded the Student Scientist Prize by the Science Foundation of Ireland with the first success on the establishment of induced human pluripotent stem cell lines with reprogramming CO-TFs for patient-specific stem cell therapy. His study result is expected to solve a very complex problem involving stem cell research and cancer cells. He said, “By winning the prize, I realized my research is very important. Even if I finish the doctor’s course, I will keep try to complete this study. The most important thing is the ‘effort’ for developing new and better methods in order to solve human’s incurable diseases and  overcoming problems in medical treatment.”
