The Opening of CNU Law School

The CNULS offers various welfare-benefits to its students like scholarships, an exclusive residence hall and childcare facilities in its building named the Keumho Law Building. “We, the CNULS, will do our best to cultivate leading law professionals in a global age, make them work for the good of our society and combine their knowledge of law with their social responsibility and social consciousness,” Lee Chul-hwan, the President of CNULS said. On the other hand, the Department of Law was abolished and the Department of Public Administration was moved and now belongs to the College of Socials Sciences beginning this year.

the First Foreign Full-time Professor

Mensah Eugene Kwadwo became the first foreign full-time professor of Chonnam National University. Kim Yoon-soo, the President of CNU, appointed him as an associate professor of law. He said, “I am very proud and happy to be here. I also enjoy staying here.” He comes from Ghana where he taught English and practiced law, and also studied law in the United States.
Before becoming a professor at CNU, he worked as a human rights lawyer in Ghana and the United States. He teaches International Human Rights, Legal English and English Law Contract this semester. He said, “I want to motivate students to study and give them a new view of looking at primary issues. I hope students will be able to see those issues themselves. They don’t need to swallow everything that they see. I hope students remember me as well.”
CNUians Winning the CEO Prize at Patent Contest

CNUians won a prize at the 2008 Campus Patent Strategy Universiade. The CNU team was composed of Kim Dong-min (Senior, Dept. of Electrical Engineering), Kim Jong-gu (Junior, School of Electronics and Computer Engineering) and Yang Hee-kyung (Senior, School of Electronics and Computer Engineering). They received a Company CEO Prize with a Research and Develop presentation based on investigating and analyzing a preceding Haptic enterprise patent.
Kim Dong-min said, “Though most teams were made up graduate students, we achieved it with the power of positive thinking. CNUians have to try to do many contests. You can have various experiences and learn many things from them.”
Professor Lee Chil-woo said, “This team tried really hard for their goal. I think CNUians can also have success if they have firm goals and study in depth with professors in the future.” This contest was first held in 2008 to announce the importance of practical patent education and provide companies’ supports to the most talented individuals.
