What Do You Want to Do?

Chonnam Tribune asked some freshmen what they want to do most during their first year as a university student.

Kim Kyo-hee (Freshman, Dept. of German Language and Literature)

Seo Rak-won (Freshman, Dept. of Business Administration)

Being at university, there are a lot of great opportunities to make precious memories I couldn’t do when I was a middle and high school student. I want to experience new things which improve me in my life such as leaving on a trip overseas alone to get to know myself, and joining school orchestra and Korean traditional percussion band in CNU. I also want to go on a blind date which is so called the charm of university life, so I wish I could be a campus couple and take a walk holding hands with her on the campus. These experiences will make my campus life a lot richer and more fulfilling.

Cho Kuk-hwa (Freshman, Dept. of Philosophy)

When I was a high school student, I could not devote myself to studying and did poorly in school. So, the thing that I really want to do at univeristy is nothing but study without becoming distracted.
I am confident about getting straight A+s. Also, I really want to be absorbed in university life, so that is why I became the class representative in the Department of Philosophy. As one of my hobbies, I have started taking guitar lessons. So, I have made up my mind to join the guitar club and hope that the guitar club at CNU will make my forte improved.

Lim Eun-hye (Freshman, Dept. of Psychology)

One of the highest expectations I have during my first year university life is going on an MT (Membership Training) which is the most important event and cannot be excluded from university life. Through this special experience, I can get close to my friends and seniors during my university life. I think that there is an inseparable relationship between a part-time job and university life. The part-time job will make us mature, both physically and mentally. So, I am finding a part-time job which is supportive in self-development right now. I am really expecting my university life to be full of ambitious plans, and just the thought of it makes my heart flutter.

I think freshmen should accumulate as many different experiences as possible. So, I have a plan to apply for the Long March through National Land (LN) during the upcoming summer vacation. I think the LN will make my willpower stronger and I could have an opportunity to meet people from different social backgrounds.
I will also participate in an honorary ambassador program for the university to make my university life special. Moreover, not only do I look forward to going to bars to enjoy the nightlife, but I anticipate enjoying the university festival. I really want to get into the spirit of campus life during my time here and enjoy what it has to offer.
