Red Comments Towards a Global University

Yang Shin-gyu, Senior, Dept. of Political Science

After reading the previous issue of Chonnam Tribune, I understand how hard CNU is trying to be globalized through many international programs, for sending CNU students abroad and bringing foreign students here. I want to add one more thing to this list of globalization activities. I found it in the article “Reports Need Red Comments.” If CNU becomes a global university and bolster students’ global competitiveness, it is the name of the game to enable students to attain higher levels of academic achievement. As the article states, feedback from professors is an effective method for improving students’ academic achievement. That is why I want to see ‘Red Comments’ on all my assignments.

Now Is the Time to Read!

Oh Na-young, Junior, Dept. of English Lang. & Lit.

I will be so happy if my letter is published in the magazine Chonnam Tribune. Whenever I read this magazine, I feel many students and professors make every effort for the development of CNU. I wish all CNU members will become interested in the magazine and read it not only because it has campus news, but also a variety of information from inside and outside the university. By reading the “Travelogue” article, we can hear about many different cultures, including Mongolia’s in the previous issue, while improving our English reading power. Finally, I expect Chonnam Tribune to share more information, while staying an interesting and reader friendly magazine.

 We Need Professors’ Feedback

Kim Ran-do, Senior, Dept. of English Lang. & Lit.

As a student majoring in English, I have enjoyed reading Chonnam Tribune since I was a freshman. It is not as difficult as The New York Times or The Washington Post, but it provides an exposure to authentic English. The article “Reports Need Red Comments” was good in the September issue. I have taken many English classes, especially conversation and writing classes in which professors provide feedback on my performance. Until I was a sophomore, I received severe feedback whenever I submitted writing assignments. But now, when I look back upon the past, professors’ feedback really helped me upgrade my English. I hope the classes that professors give personal comments go on increasing in number and many students take these kinds of classes.

Thanks to the Magazine Cover

Jang Yu-jung, Sophomore, Dept. of Environmental Oceanography

I had not been concerned about Chonnam Tribune because all the articles in it were written in English. However, when I saw the front cover of Chonnam Tribune last September, I momentarily thought some person on the cover photo was ‘a Korean in the world’ because the photo includes several foreigners. It aroused my curiosity, and then I turned the pages of the magazine. Turning over the leaves, I reconfirmed my thoughts that the English magazine was too difficult for me to read it, but the articles are useful for me. After reading them, I have become further interested in my school. Thanks Chonnam Tribune!
