By Gim Ye-seul, Tribune Cup-reporter

The Honam Study Center (HSC) founded in CNU last year continues to hold its series of lectures with the title “The Story of Honam Studies from local historians”. Honam Studies concerns itself with the Honam region, which is comprised of Gwangju and the Jeollanamdo Province, and the meaningful practices of its people’s everyday lives. The purpose of these lectures is to reinforce in-depth investigation of traditional culture in the Honam region.
Due to the lack of systematic research, it is pointed out that the abundant resources of traditional culture in the Honam region have not been well utilized. The HSC is supposed to foster professional staff for Honam Study and also to carry out collection, excavation, investigation, analysis, translation, research and development of the ancient documents about the Honam region. At the end of this year, it will publish ten books including a collection of regional literature, a biographical dictionary, a chronological table of Honam and a list of Korean verses from the Jeollanamdo province.
