Chonnam National University (CNU) held a naming ceremony for its red apricot tree on March 24, as part of the 70th anniversary commemorative events. This year also marks the 70th anniversary of planting the tree in the College of Agriculture in 1952. CNU declared “CNU Hongmae” (red apricot tree) as the tree’s official name. The apricot tree was named “Hongmae” in 2020, but it was mixed with its former name “Daemyeongmae.” The CNU President, the Chairman of Faculty Association, and student representatives attended the naming event and unveiled its new nameplate now located just under the tree around the University Auditorium. President Jung Seongtaek said at the ceremony, “CNU will lead its history by truth and creation, just like Hongmae, persistent and graceful.” The IAPE is planning to preserve and proliferate the tree and to promote it as a representative brand of CNU.
