Chonnam National University (CNU) will establish the Graduate School of Data Science (GSDS) next year to cultivate the next generation of data scientists. CNU was granted formal approval by the Ministry of Education for the establishment of the graduate school on Oct. 28. The GSDS will recruit 50 students to its two-year master’s program and offer them education about data management and analytics. The students will learn how to collect, analyze and use data from a variety of sources in their work fields from March 2022. As society needs data experts in various fields, the graduate school will give opportunities to people from different majors, such as the humanities, sociology, economics, medical fields, agriculture, arts and sports so that they can grow up as convergence talents with data competencies. Kim Su-hyung (Professor, School of AI Convergence), Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the GSDS, said that “The GSDS targets students from different majors, and its goal is to educate students who did not major in data-related studies and make them data science experts in their own field. People who want to apply their field to artificial intelligence and big data technology are welcomed at the school.” The GSDS will continue to accept applications for the master’s program until Nov. 29.
