Operating Regional Trauma Centers
Jang Hyo-seung (Sophomore, Dept. of German Language and Literature)
Dr. Lee Guk-jong quit his position as head of the regional trauma center at Ajou University Hospital last January, because of frequent conflicts with the hospital over financial problems. I heard that hospitals in Korea try to make a luxury environment for their public image. But I think it would be more meaningful if the cost of making a good public image could be used to save the lives of emergency patients instead. I understand that private hospitals like Ajou University Hospital need to pursue their profits. So, I think it will be best if the government can establish national trauma centers by region and directly run them rather than designating private hospitals as regional trauma centers and take a risk that they will have deficits.
