Army Discharges Transgender Soldier
Yulia Gladkikh (Sophomore, Dept. of English Language and Literature)
Instead of kicking the soldier out of the military after coming out as transgender, the case should have been solved with a transfer to another base or unit to serve alongside other women. Struggling with gender dysphoria and undergoing surgery to become the gender one has always felt like is exhausting, both mentally and physically. The people who have survived the transition should be respected instead of punished in this manner. The Korean government should recognize the soldier’s new gender and treat her as they would any other female citizen, by letting her serve if she wants to.
