On September 11, a traditional culture event for international students took place in front of Minjumaru on Gwangju campus. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) organizes the event  every year to celebrate Seollal, Chuseok and help international students understand Korean culture. International students tried traditional Korean clothes “hanbok” and played Samulnori, traditional Korean percussions. Hanbok-shaped air fresheners were offered as souvenirs and students decorated the hanbok shape with various colors. Celia Lacaze (Fourth Year, Agronomy Major), an exchange student from France said, “It was really cool to try hanbok and all other traditional Korean things. Since we don't have thanksgiving in France, it’s a fresh experience to celebrate one in Korea.” Foreign students had time to learn Korean holiday culture by enjoying traditional games such as archery, neolttwigi, and tuho. After the event, Cho Joon-sik, the director of OIA said, “I hope this Chuseok event was a chance for both Korean and international students to mingle and communicate together.”
