Chonnam National University (CNU) established a new college to adopt the new educational requirements in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution on September. The newly created College of AI Convergence, which is dedicated to foster high-quality AI experts, is comprised of four interdisciplinary majors: Robotics Engineering Convergence, IoT Artificial Intelligence Convergence, Future Energy Engineering Convergence, and Bigdata Financial Engineering Convergence. The college’s faculty consists of experts involved in colleges: engineering, business administration, natural science, agriculture and life sciences, and law. They designed the curriculum within which implements the latest techniques such as problem-based learning, flipped learning, and social lab design thinking.
Kim Soo-hyung, Dean of the College of AI Convergence, mentioned, “It is expected that the demand for AI workforce would increase further. Thus, we will foster highly expertized workforce and focus on training AI-applied labor force to combine AI and diverse majors together.” The college is recruiting specialists in artificial intelligence and big data analysis from the early stages. The college also plans to set up new majors that would cover future strategic industries in Gwangju and Jeonnam Province: future automobile, healthcare, culture technology, farming establishment, and urban restoration. CNU President Jeong Byung-seok mentioned the College of AI Convergence should be the platform of industrial innovation in Gwangju and Jeonnam Province.
