Many visitors participated in the opening ceremony including his family members and they commemorated the struggle and sacrifice of Martyr for democracy Yun Sang-won. He agonized about the sanctity and value of human life teaching workers at Deulbul Night School and was a spokesperson for the Gwangju citizen army during the May 18 Democratization Movement in 1980. “March for the Beloved” written for a posthumous marriage for him and labor activist Park Gi-sun who died in 1978 became the movement’s signature song. CNU President Jeong Byung-seok said, “We hope to walk hand in hand and proceed on this long journey for democracy, human rights, and justice.” The Memorial Hall is expected to make CNU students remember the martyr’s passion, courage and dedication for a better world.
