전남대, 5·18 민주화운동 38주년 기념식 개최

▲ A ceremony to commemorate the May 18 Democratization Movement began with the pledge of allegiance at Yongbong Hall on May 18.

     CNU members and Gwangju citizens commemorated the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement on May 18. The May 18 Institute at CNU hosted a commemoration event to mark the 38th anniversary of the May 18 Movement at Yongbong Hall at the university. At the ceremony, Moon Seok-hwan, the vice president of CNU Association of Alumni for Democracy gave a brief report about CNU’s role in the May 18 Democratization Movement. CNU President Jeong Byeong-seok, CNU Alumni Association President Jeong In-chae, Choi Gyeong-hwan, a member of the National Assembly and Kim Sang-yoon, president of CNU Association of Alumni for Democracy delivered their commemorative addresses at the ceremony. In addition, CNU Faculty Council President Lee Keun-bae recited “To All the Intellectuals of the Republic of Korea” the declaration CNU professors issued on May 14, 1980 and Choi Do-hyeong, president of the General Student Council pledged to keep the spirit of the May 18 in mind. The ceremony also included a series of commemorative programs including Poet Park Mong-gu’s poem recitation and Wild Civic Choir Wild Goose’s performance. The event concluded with the singing of the song “March for the Beloved” and then all the attendees made a pilgrimage to the CNU Trail of Democracy on campus.
