Voting for the Book of the Year for the 2018 Gwangju and Jeonnam Read and Talk (GJRT) program started on April 25. The residents of Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province can participated in the vote at 21 polling places including CNU Library and local libraries, and also online on the GJRT website until May 24. Five candidate books were chosen by the Book Selection Committee consisting of professors, journalists and librarians on April 18. Kim Jung-eun, director of the program at the CNU Library said, “This project can contribute to communication in our local community by promoting local residents to read the same book and talk about the same theme. It can also help CNU students read more books about humanity.” Choi Su-yeon (Freshman, Dept. of Sociology) said, “I voted for one of the books because I was interested in making good relationships with others and I think this book might help me. I hope my chosen book can be selected as the book of the year for the 2018 GJRT.” This community reading project has provided the opportunity for Gwangju and Jeonnam residents as well as CNU students to read books and share their opinions with each other since 2013.
