The campus is full of refreshing smells of flowers and excited freshmen. The Chonnam Tribune interviewed four freshmen about their expectations of campus life on the day of the entrance ceremony. – Ed.

I want to join clubs, Shin Ji-su (Dept. of Electrical Engineering)
Unlike high school, since there is no fixed class and no homeroom teacher at the university, I feel free which makes me anticipate and feel excited about what I can do of my own free will. I want to get along well with seniors as well as other freshmen. I want to join clubs that I can have fun and socialize with many people on campus. I am excited to participate in my department’s events. It also makes my heart flutter.

I want to be an exchange student, Son Bong-geun (Dept. of French language and Literature)
I am excited to experience new things that I have not experienced yet, not only studies but also enjoying campus life. I am looking forward to seeing professors since it is my first time to meet them. In addition, I want to study hard to receive scholarships. Applying for an exchange student program is my goal during my school days. It will be fun to make many new friends on this large and beautiful campus of CNU.

I want to make international friends, Harris Victor Saah (Faculty of Business Administration, Liberia)
I firstly want to get used to life in Korea and at CNU. After getting used to the new environment, I have high expectations for educational programs and friendships on campus. One of my ultimate goals is to make many international friends so that I can share my own story of my country. I also want to know about the stories of other students from their home country too so that I can get a better understanding of cultural differences. With many international friends, I want to make some good memories in Korea.

I want to learn foreign languages, Suzanna Kagramanian (School of Biological Sciences and Technology, Russia)
I want to study more beyond my major. Those studies would be languages such as Chinese and Japanese. By the time I finish my degree, I hope to know more languages than I know now. I also expect to make good friends with both Koreans and internationals. Having good friends in life will be helpful for me and also, I can gain more knowledge with them. While attending CNU, I want to be good in my class and satisfy those who believe in me.
