You have already taken the 1st step. Going abroad to study is one of the biggest decisions of your life which will lead to your dreams and opportunities flourishing. It is difficult to feel at home in a new place but it is not impossible to create your own compatibility. Korea is a nice place to live in and Chonnam National University is one of the best institutes for studying. Here, a great number of international students from different countries are making the campus environment more global.
When a student decides to come abroad, a lot of questions will arise in his/ her mind about the new culture, language, people, food and so on. I am trying to put light on some basic queries for new students.
Korea has a long traditional cultural value with an independent way of thinking. Korean people are friendly, cooperative and hard working. Instead of searching for the differences between your home country and Korea, you should have the ability to accept the new culture and respect the changes.
Even though Korean language is completely different from ours, a true interest of learning and appreciable attitude towards this language will make it easier to learn. Moreover, the university provides language courses for international students. Active communication with people and making a good network are helpful to understand this language easily. Make sure to join student associations so that you can develop your communication skills quickly.
From my experience, food is absolutely no problem in Korea. Although there are some differences in eating habits from country to country, online food stores can help you to get the foods you want very conveniently. Furthermore, the university dormitory system and canteen will be good options to stay here and it’s affordable too.
Overall, I want to say to the newcomers to see the world in a new way. Don’t complain, try to experience the new cultures from different countries and enjoy every challenge that you will face. This attitude will make your life easy. Separating times between studying and relaxing is also essential. Finally, please don’t hesitate to contact the international office if you have any problems. They are always ready to help you with every matter including your academic struggles, university lives, jobs, accommodation, and/or personal queries. We all warmly welcome you and wish you a very bright future.
