▲ Local residents and students enjoying a concert of Poland's famous singers in the UW festival

I came back to Chonnam National University (CNU) after finishing my exchange student life at the University of Warsaw (UW) last semester. I experienced so many new things when I was in Warsaw. I am going to share my experience at the university festival, which was one of the most memorable experiences during my exchange student life.
The UW festival was "a special drunk day at the university" for me. The festival was pretty crowded with many local residents and students at the University. Waiting in line to get inside the entrance was as long as the distance from the College of Business Administration to the White Library at CNU. In the festival, I enjoyed a concert of Poland's famous singers with a couple of beers in one hand and I danced with many foreign friends who were from different countries. Then, we enjoyed a party at a club all together until late. That festival was a really good chance to make new friends and get familiar all together.
Basically, it was not that different from the one at CNU which is mainly about hanging out together. But I think the main difference between the UW festival and CNU’s one was “the way to organize and enjoy a festival”. Unlike the CNU festival, the UW festival was held in a single main place. If I say the festival of CNU is on a big scale, the UW festival was much smaller than that of CNU. For example, the UW festival did not have a "street culture" like street restaurants and places for gambling. Only three or four street vendors sold some popular foods in Europe such as Kebabs, Sausages and beer.
The food and beer in the festival were not more expensive than my expectation. All the people there could get some food and beers by exchanging money for chips that look like gambling chips. If the festival in Korea shows that a lot of friends usually have fun together on the street and on the grass, the students at UW just showed up, enjoyed the club concert with a lot of drinks and danced together even though they did not know each other.
The UW festival was really a new and fresh experience for me. It was fun enough to enjoy the night. I made many new friends who did not even know each other before the festival. The festival was a good place for students to de-stress for the night and to socialize with other students. I do not think there is a huge difference between Korean and European college festivals. But enjoying the college festival as an international student allowed me to look at and temporarily be a part of their culture. I strongly recommend you to experience a college festival in other countries if you get a chance.
