Language Education Center (LEC) at Chonnam National University is preparing to welcome 27 American students attending the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) 2017 Korean program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, for this coming summer. Preparing for the program, the LEC has selected 27 Korean students out of 36 applicants who are expected to have one-on-one language partner sessions with incoming American students. On June 8, Korean language partners gave group presentations on topics related to Gwangju and cultural diversities. One of the Korean language partner Hong Seong-pil (Sophomore, Faculty of Business Administration) said, “I presented about the May 18 Democratization Movement today. It was a great opportunity to make a research about the historical incident in Gwangju while preparing for the presentation. In addition, it was very meaningful to get to know about many other topics while listening to others’ presentations.” Korean language partners will have two more orientation sessions and start participating in the CLS program from June 17.
