제9회 후광학술상, 조지 카치아피카스 전 교수 수상

     Chonnam National University (CNU) selected George Katsiaficas, a former professor of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wentworth Institute of Technology, as 9th Hugwang Academic Award winner. The award ceremony was held on June 8, 2016 at CNU Minjumaru. The Hugwang academic award was made to honor the late president of South Korea Hugwang Kim Dae-jung who contributed to Korea’s peace and democracy. CNU authorities think highly of George Katsiaficas’s dedication to globalization of May 18 Democratization Movement which perfectly fits to president Kim’s main value; democracy, liberty, peace and extension of human rights. “It’s a great honor and I’m humbled by the honor because many scholars would also be considered. From the past, CNU has been a leader for human rights and democracy. I hope the next generation will continue the struggle for the better world,” said George Katsiaficas. He announced that he will donate all the prize money to make national meritous people’s children to go to Greece for learning the basic meaning of freedom and democracy.
