파나마 페이퍼 스캔들
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) disclosed recently a Panamanian law firm’s secret documents called the ‘Panama Papers’. The Panama Papers includes information about tax evasion and money laundering of wealthy people and public officials all over the world. When I first heard about this issue, I did not think seriously about it because Korea rarely discusses big news about other countries such as Japan and the U.S. However, according to the news, Korea and other countries already started to investigate the scandal related to certain people. The governments of various countries have said they would take strong measures against tax avoidance based on their laws. Therefore, it will be much harder to hide assets from tax authorities. I hope that our government will make stronger laws about this issue in the future. In addition, they should go over tax avoidance with a fine-tooth comb to reduce the number of people who want to hide their assets.
