교황 프란치스코의 가르침

On August 14th, Pope Francis visited Korea and the whole country gave him an enthusiastic welcome. He comforted South Korea's wounded heart from the tragedy of the Ferry Sewol disaster, military brutality, and many other negative things. The visit by Pope Francis sure was a great event regardless of religion, and his humble and simple life attitude impressed many people, but there is one more thing we need to think of. Are we ready to adopt an attitude like him? Isn't it a big challenge to many of us? We praise his life style and his sincerity but if we do not look deep into ourselves and take some time for introspection, Pope Francis' visit is nothing but a special one-time event.
So, what makes Pope Francis so special? Why is he considered different compared to the other Popes? I think his way to communicate with people could be the reason. He does not force others to listen to him but listens to what other people say. He stressed the importance of understanding and persuasion in interacting with others. He also stands for the weak and spreads the soul of peace and love to the world. Segregation seems not exist in his mind at all when you see him being equally nice to young and old, the poor and rich, even to people who have different religions. He shows what he thinks is right. Everything I mentioned above sounds so simple and it seems so obvious that he should do it as a Pope, but we all know it is not easy to practice. That is what makes him so different and why people respect him. Before the Pope Francis departed Korea, he asked Christians how much they contributed as a religious person to make an equitable and just society.
As the new Editor-in-Chief, I would like to adopt Pope Francis' attitude and make the Chonnam Tribune a magazine for positive communication at CNU. It will include articles on the university news, information, and social issues as we always have done of course. However, we will listen to everyone and try to communicate with the readers via articles, SNS, and e-mails at the same time. As a periodical publication, the Chonnam Tribune will take part to make CNU a better community. Now it is time to think what you can do to make our University a better place. It is not so difficult. You can start with something small like saying nice things to others. Always make the effort to be positive and kind!
