Here in Canada, it gets a lot of snow and it is getting colder and colder. I would like to give you my story about the hospitality and potluck parties that Grenfell Campus of The Memorial University welcomes its international students with. The potluck party is not a regular event from the school but a student organized event among exchange students and other Canadian students here on Grenfell campus. There are two types of dormitories here. One is Residence and the other is called Chalet. Residence is very similar to the Build Transfer Lease Residence on Yongbong campus. But, the Chalet is composed of four rooms with a shared kitchen, lounge and two washrooms. A host calls his or her friends to come over with the food they had made and this becomes a potluck party.
    On the one hand, the hospitality is quite different from the former one. There was an orientation where all of the international students and host families can meet up. Every two students were designated to a host family and would make an appointment. There are normally two meetings and the type of the meeting varies depending on the host families. The host family I met was the Hansen-robitscheck family. They had three children with two cats and a dog. Their origin is German, so they cooked a German style cutlet that is called Schnitzel with mashed potatoes. The two young beautiful girls and a boy were joyful. After having dinner with them, we all went down to the kid’s lounge where everybody could play football.
    They were very well organized and I felt at home there. People are very open to people from other countries. You will enjoy the life and studies here on Grenfell Campus of The Memorial University. Grenfell campus where I live is located at Corner Brook, the far west side of Newfoundland at the far east of Canada, and was established in 1975 and changed its name honoring Sir Wilfred Grenfell. Every year, many students from various countries come and take ESL courses as well as exchange student programs.
