▲ Freshmen carrying TOEIC books on campus

From the first semester of 2014, freshmen at CNUshould take a test-based lecture called ‘Global Communication English’. Students can get the mark according to the scores of TOEIC they have taken during the class. CNU introduced the compulsory course to improve students' English ability and to increase their employment capabilities by attaining the higher score in TOEIC earlier than before. Freshmen should take an exam twice a year; in April and October, and the best score among the test results is accepted as their grade. According to the grading table released by the Office of Academic Affairs, a score above 750 is graded as A+ and a score beyond 500 is graded as C+. As students take the test, grades are given automatically and there is no need to register for the course. Not only freshmen, but also sophomores who entered the university in 2013 also should take a TOEIC test, no exception for the students who have already got a score above 600.’Global Communication English’ is expected to encourage students’ competitiveness if it is managed.
